The NBA announced they will be changing the original East vs. West all-star game format. The new format will feature two captains who will select teams without regard to which conference the player plays in.
There will still be 12 players selected from each conference for the game in Los Angeles on Feb. 18. Five players from each conference will be selected as starters, with the fan vote being worth 50 percent, player vote worth 25 percent and media vote worth 25 percent. Seven reserves for each team will be picked by each conference’s head coaches.
For once I think the NBA may have gotten it right. The old format was a bit stale. The entire weekend has pretty much been a bore as of recent. I believe switching it up should add a little juice to very dehydrated spectacle. It should be interesting if anything. I’m sure they’ll overhype a potential Kevin Durant verses Russell Westbrook story. None the less this should make for good tv.
